Jac to sing at Asian Idol

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaclyn Victor will carry the Malaysian banner to the inaugural Asian Idol talent search show in Jakarta next month.

The Malaysian Idol will be pitted against talents from five other countries, including host country Indonesia, which has yet to name its representative.

The other participating Idols are Hady Mirza (representing Singapore), Phu’o’ng Vy (Vietnam), Mau Marcelo (Philippines) and Abhijeet Sawant (India).

The show will be aired live over 8TV at 10pm on Dec 15 and Dec 16.

Jaclyn, who lost out to Filipino diva Vina Morales at the Ikon Asean show in August, said she expects tough competition in Jakarta.

At an Asian Idol press conference here yesterday, Jaclyn said her defeat to Vina had made her stronger and more determined to prove her vocal prowess at the upcoming competition.

“I have learnt a lot since Ikon Asean. I have taken the judges’ criticisms positively and have been honing my vocal skills to make an impact at Asian Idol.

Music producer Paul Moss will be among the jury from the six participating countries who will offer critiques and tips at the competition. Viewers can vote for their favourite Idol via SMS.

However, said 8TV chief operating officer Ahmad Izham Omar, there would be some adjustments as Asian Idol is a regional vote-based show and vote bases vary because of the population of each country.

He said percentage, rather than numbers, would be tabulated, adding that due to this, an extra element has been added into the voting system.

“Viewers are required to vote for two contestants,” he said.

Road to Asian Idol, featuring Jaclyn’s preparation for the competition, will be aired over 8TV at 11pm on Dec 8.
