‘Pinoy Idol’ rejects, raise your hands

MANILA, Philippines - An insider says Paolo Bediones was considered for GMA 7’s “Pinoy Idol” host slot, which went to Raymond Gutierrez.

The source says Bediones didn’t make it because the “Idol” bible, drafted by franchise holder Fremantle, fixes the host’s age at 30 below. Bediones confirmed this, saying he is now 33.

Double no

The same rule must have thrown out 37-year-old Songbird Regine Velasquez’s chances as PI host. Also, a Fremantle executive once told the Inquirer that singers were generally not even considered for the job, so as not to take attention away from the contestants.

Two Ryans

The two Ryans of ABC 5’s “Philippine Idol” last year have officially crossed over to the rival contest, “Pinoy Dream Academy” on ABS-CBN 2.

Former PI juror Ryan Cayabyab signed up as head master of PDA; and former PI emcee Ryan Agoncillo is now PDA main host.

Junked judges

Big-time celebs from the music industry purportedly sent feelers to GMA 7, expressing interest in the job of judge.
Among the rejects are a high-flying diva and three high-profile musical directors/composers.

Motherly jab

Lily Monteverde says she’s happy with Regal Films’ new female star, Marian Rivera, because she “can act.” Sounds like a not-so-subtle jab at Angel Locsin, who dumped the Regal/GMA Films camp for Star Cinema?

Goodbye, ‘Whammy’

Speaking of Bediones, the reason that he’s keen on “Idol” is because his game show, “Whammy,” ends this week.

“It’s supposed to run for only 16 weeks,” he said. “Rufa Mae (Quinto, co-host) and I had fun, though.”

“Whammy” will be replaced by a Koreanovela, according to a network insider.

Love rigodon

“Lino Cayetano has broken up with KC Concepcion because he wants to reunite with Bianca Gonzalez,” screams a tabloid headline.

Bianca was open about maintaining contact with Lino, though he was already involved with KC. But karma has a way of catching up on everyone. Unbeknownst to Bianca, says a source, Lino is pining for another girl who, like KC, is based in Europe.

Perhaps Bianca should relocate to Europe so that Lino would be, in her own words, “proud” of her. That was her main gripe, the reason she broke up with Lino in the first place.
